The 22nd of October 2018 wasn’t the usual Monday morning at school for Scoil Mhuire 6th class girls who ventured to the Strand Hotel in Limerick for the ‘Late Late’ Toy Show auditions. The girls were honoured to be the one of only 3 groups to feature for the press call on the launch of the Toy Show auditions. The eye-catching element of their piece was their ode to 100 year’s anniversary of women’s rights to vote (1918 – 2018). Ryan Tubrity was so impressed that he even joined in on their performance! The girls spoke so eloquently to the various news reporters including RTE’s Úna O’ Hagan as well as reporters from radio stations such as Live 95 FM. The cherry on the cake was featuring on RTE 1 news where they danced and sang a medley from Mary Poppins musical and films (one coming to cinema’s soon). Following the Press Call, the girls remained poised and focused as they faced the RTE judges who couldn’t help singing and clapping along. This boosted the girls’ confidence who gave the performance of a life-time. Previously, the students, under the direction of their Sixth class teacher and choreographer Muireann Ní Chochláin, had won first prize in the Action Song competition at Feis Maitiú. At the auditions the students gave it everything and brought great joy and excitement to us all Scoil Mhuire. Today was living proof of the Scoil Mhuire motto – ‘Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh Sí’ (Praise the Young and They Will Flourish.
