If you had arrived into Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig on Friday the 28th of September, you could easily be fooled into thinking St Patricks Day had come early ,such was the sea of green white and gold flags adorning every child in the School Yard. However all the Pupils in Scoil Mhuire were anxiously awaiting the arrival of a local hero “World Women’s Rowing Champion 2018” Sanita Puspure and what a welcome she did get. Sanita arrived to a whole school rendition of “Congratulations” which was closely followed by another whole school rendition of ” You are the Champion” . Sanita was officially congratulated by School Princpial Mairead Ní Mhurchú who pointed out that while she was always a champion mum to her daughter Daniella , a Scoil Mhuire Pupil and son Patrick who attends nearby Scoil Eoin, she was now a World Champion Rower as well! Pupils from 4th class then recited a poem they had written themselves especially for Sanita and presented her with a copy of it after to take home. This was followed by a quick question and answer session with Sanita , with a question being posed by a pupil from each class level across the school. We definitely think it helped prepare her for Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show that night! The biggest cheer came when Sanita told the pupils that there would be no homework on Monday! We are already looking forward to Sanita making a return visit after the Olympics in Tokyo 2020 and not just for the promise of homework off!
